In 2007 Ardbeg distillery faced a challenge, a broken boiler had left 6 washbacks filled with precious liquid. Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Distilling and Whisky Creation, saw an opportunity for an experiment. The washback lids were thrown back and the liquid was exposed to the Islay air in a three week long fermentation. The resulting whisky is the sharpest, zingiest and wildest Ardbeg ever.
