Description

Macallan - 71 Years Old 1950 - Tales Of The Macallan Volume 1

The first release in an ongoing series from the Macallan distillery known as ‘Tales of The Macallan’. This volume, and presumably future releases, will pay tribute to the various trailblazing luminaries who pioneered the development of the Easter Elchies Estate and what eventually became The Macallan.

Volume I acts as a eulogy to Laird of the Easter Elchies Estate, Captain John Grant (1659-1715). While living and working on the estate, John had overseen the extension and reconstruction works of the Easter Elchies House in 1700 which had transformed it from a simple tower house into a modest Highland Manor. This was done to anticipate agricultural improvements on the land of the Easter Elchies Estate and had unknowingly at the time laid the foundations for the creation of The Macallan distillery.

This expression was distilled in 1950 and was selected by at-the-time Lead Whisky Maker Sarah Burgess to be bottled in 2021 specially for this monumental release from the distillery. The whisky is contained within a unique handcrafted bespoke crystal decanter created by the renowned French glassmaker Lalique, who have been masters of their craft for over 130 years. The decanter itself is contained within an 800-page almanac created by Shepherds Bookbinders containing beautiful artwork curated by English artist Andrew Davison.

This elusive bottle is one of only 350 produced by The Macallan.
